This competition is a single species competition targeting only Katonkels. Katonkels are also known as Bonito or Bonnies.

The event uses catch-photo/video-release and verified by witness system. Videos recorded and verified by witnesses in the recording will overrule pictures should measures be equal or the measurement in the picture be questionable.

Refer to the below illustration on how to measure your fish:

Scoring will determined by the length as measured above of each fish caught. Length is determined from the forward-most point of the fish with the fish’s mouth closed to the fork of the tail, measured in Centimeters.

Participants are allowed to submit up to 10 fish per fishing session. A video recordings of the competitor taking the measurements will be required. More than one photo or video of a fish may be taken. The competitor needs to ensure the measurements are clearly visible in the video or pictures.

All videos and pictures of fish caught MUST be submitted to the WhatsApp group on the day of your launch pic to be eligible. Should the competitor for any reason have difficulty uploading his evidence it will be the responsibility of the competitor to make contact with the Competition Director to make alternate arrangements.

Remember there will be multiple prizes thus EVERY Katonkel caught big or small counts!

In the event of a tie the participants 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc fish caught during the duration of the competition will be used as a tie breaker. Make sure you measure and submit all your catches (within your bag limits please). Max 10 fish by angler per day.

The Competition Director will review the photos to verify reported results and determine place winners. The Competition Director is responsible for the final call in all matters.

To keep things interesting the following bonus points will apply:

  • Any fish submitted that was photographed or video recorded with a kayakfish.co.za sticker clearly visible on your kayak will gain 1cm. We will accept sunrise pictures or some creative pictures with the logo visible for release points. These pictures do not have to be of the competitor but must be submitted by the competitor to qualify for the bonus points on the fish caught. These are posed pictures we can use as marketing material. Measurement video and pictures do not require the logo. Stickers will be available at no cost for collection in Durbanville and will be on hand where we launch. It would be a good idea to keep this sticker on your kayak for spot prizes and future comps.
  • Any fish caught on a weekend Saturdays or Sundays will automatically gain 1cm.
  • Fish caught and safely released at any time on the condition they were clearly measured will gain 1cm.

These bonus points will be added together should more than one condition be met. Example, Bonnie caught 14 Aug the Saturday measures 40cm. Video and Picture taken shows competitor with fish measured showing the kayakfish.co.za sticker on the competitors kayak. Thus 40cm + 1cm (Weekend Bonus) + 1cm (kayakfish.co.za sticker bonus) = 42cm fish.

Print your own KAYAKFISH.CO.ZA sticker. Click here for details
