If you are looking in for an adventure of a lifetime then the Katonkel Ronkel festival of fishing is where you will find some SERIOUS GEES. This is a one of a kind event!

The 2026 edition of the event brings you a very exciting new additions and challenges. First of all, we’re excited to confirm that the Katonkel Ronkel committee remains in tact for 2026: (Dan Vivier, JP Slabber, James Stapelberg, Trevor Marsden, Werner Grobler and Kowus Pelser)

Some more exciting news is in 2026: Not only will there be an option to participate in teams but the teams will be shaken up into 3 man groups. Also again, and Snoek, Yellow Tail, Tuna alongside the star of the show, Bonnies, will get prizes. Brace yourself for another addition of an event of a lifetime.

More Details About the Event:

WHEN: 1 Aug 2026 – 30 Aug 2026 (This year the comp will only run on weekends, no weekday fishing.)

KICK-OFF:  We will kick off the event with a bang on the 1st of Aug where we will all come together at three anchor to get things going. The final event briefing will take place prior to unleashing the fisherman to the waters. (Only 3 Anchor allowed on this day) (Weather permitting)

PRIZE-GIVING EVENT:  The prize-giving event will take place on 12 September Venue TBC. Time TBD but keep the day open because we might do some fishing beforehand.

WHERE: The local waters of Cape Town (Melkbos to Hangklip).

ENTRY FEE: R 500 pp

COMPETITION FORMAT: The format will be biggest bonnie as the main objective, there will be a Bonnie bag 1st, 2nd and 3rd but also individual best yellow tail, biggest tuna and biggest snoek. There will also be a a team 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. Our sponsors will also have small side comps to be announced during the comp.

LAUNCH SITES: 3 Anchor, OPBC, Simonstown, Millers, Hangklip, Strand or Buffels Bay at Cape Point.

TARGET SPECIES: Katonkel (Bonito/Bonnie), Yellow Tail, Tuna and Snoek.

PRIZES: All categories specified will receive a prize.

MEASUREMENTS: Details on how measurements will work will be shared in the event rules and briefings.

Competition Rules and Scoring System Overview The competition will start 07:00 on the 1th of August 2026 and will end 23:59 on the 30th of August 2026. You can fish at any time during this period and only your biggest 4 bonnies, and biggest fish of the additional species (yellowtail, snoek, tuna) submitted will count....
