If you are looking in for an adventure of a lifetime then the Katonkel Ronkel festival of fishing is where you will find some SERIOUS GEES. This is a one of a kind event!

The 2025 edition of the event brings you a very exciting almost complete reinvention. First of all, we’re excited to announce that the Katonkel Ronkel hence forward will be organised by not one fisherman but a newly established committee for 2025: (Dan Vivier, JP Slabber, James Stapelberg, Trevor Marsden, Werner Grobler and Kowus Pelser)

Some more exciting news is in 2025: There will be the option to participate in teams again, and Snoek, Yellow Tail, Hotties alongside the star of the show, Bonnies, will get prizes. Brace yourself for the event of a lifetime.

More Details About the Event:

WHEN: 16 Aug 2025 – 21 September 2025 (This year the comp will only run on weekends, no weekday fishing. Friday’s are however included)

KICK-OFF:  We will kick off the event with a bang on the 16th of Aug where we will all come together a three anchor to get things going. The final event briefing will take place prior to unleashing the fisherman to the waters. (Only 3 Anchor allowed on this day) (Weather permitting)

PRIZE-GIVING EVENT:  The prize-giving event will take place on 27 September at the Oceana Power Boat Club (OPBC). Time TBD but keep the day open because we might do some fishing beforehand.

WHERE: The local waters of Cape Town (Melkbos to Strand).

ENTRY FEE: R 450 pp

COMPETITION FORMAT: The format will be top 4 biggest bonnies as main objective, but also individual best yellow tail, biggest hottie and biggest snoek. There will also be a top team prize. Our sponsors will also have small side comps like the Noeby photo comp so keep an eye out for these.

LAUNCH SITES: 3 Anchor, OPBC, Simonstown, Millers  or Buffels Bay at Cape Point.

TRGET SPECIES: Katonkel (Bonito/Bonnie), Yellow Tail, Hotties and Snoek.

PRIZES: Prizes will be great, your entry will help us get the bigger okes over the line so add your name to the list you will not regret it!
